Stanford Looks to Rise on Day Three

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Teeing off shortly after dawn at Grayhawk Golf Course, Stanford men's golf wrapped up the second day of stroke play at the NCAA Championships with a six-over par round of 286 strokes. The Cardinal finishes day two tied for 13th place, right on the projected cut line ahead of tomorrow's round. The top 15 teams advance to Monday's fourth round.

Karl Vilips led the scoring over the second 18 holes, carding a two-under par round of 68. Vilips tallied four birdies and two bogies, giving him seven holes under par in the tournament. He enters Sunday's round tied for 13th overall.

Barclay Brown remained in a prime position after a second round 71 (+1), scoring a team-leading five birdies. Through two rounds, Brown ranks third in the field in birdies and places eighth overall. The Cardinal as a team holds the best mark on par threes (2.95 average) and fifth best on par fives (4.80 average) in the 30-team field.

Ethan Ng fired a three-over 73 for the second straight day, with one birdie and 14 pars, while Nate Menon finished at 74 (+4) and Michael Thorbjornsen 76 (+6). Menon finished the round with three birdies while Thorbjornsen had one with 15 pars.
