KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Stanford secured its best-ever finish in the ICSA Open Team Race on Monday, taking second overall. The Cardinal now has finished either first or second in all three of the spring championships.

Stanford's previous best result of third place in the ICSA Open Team Race most recently occurred in 2019, with the team also earning third in 2014 and 2015.

The Cardinal jumped out to an early lead after the round of 16, sailing to a perfect 15-0 record and holding first place heading into the final day of sailing. In the round of eight, Stanford sailed to a 3-4 record, and an overall score of 18-4, good for second place.

Stanford advanced to the final four round along with Harvard in first place, Yale in third, and Dartmouth in fourth. Unfortunately, changes in the wind resulted in not enough time to complete the final round, resulting in an event victory for Harvard.

Hannah Freeman, Chapman Petersen, Michelle Lahrkamp, and Vanessa Lahrkamp were the skippers for the Cardinal and led the team to the silver medal. Patricia Gerli, Gwendolyn Donahue, Ellie Harned, Abigail Tindall, and Grace Austin managed the crew duties throughout the regatta.

Stanford will look to add another strong result in the Open Fleet Race Championships, beginning Tuesday, May 30 and wrapping up on Friday, June 2 also in Kings Point, N.Y.
