Stanford Falls in Regular Season Finale

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford dropped an 8-0 decision in six innings to No. 9 Washington in the regular season finale, Sunday, at Smith Family Stadium.

With the loss and a Utah sweep over Oregon this weekend, Stanford (39-12, 14-10 Pac-12) will be the No. 4 seed in next week's Pac-12 Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

Freshman NiJaree Canady (14-1) took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work. The freshman tallied five strikeouts in her 24th appearance of the year.

Freshman River Mahler recorded the lone hit of the day for the Cardinal with a lead off single in the top of the first inning.

Washington's Kelley Lynch hit a three-run home run in the top of the third to break a scoreless tie. The Huskies added four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to put the run-rule into effect. 

Prior to the game, the Cardinal recognized its six departing seniors - Tatum Boyd, Taylor Gindlesperger, Gabi Peters, Emily Schultz, Sydney Steele and Emily Young.

No. 4 seed Stanford will face No. 5 seed Oregon in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
