Cubs Select Bowser on Day Three

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Drew Bowser was selected in the 20th round (No. 596) of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

With Bowser's selection, Stanford saw nine players drafted during the 20-round draft. Tommy Troy was selected 12th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks before seven more Cardinal heard their names called on Monday in rounds three through 10.

Bowser batted .270 with 41 runs scored, 11 doubles, three triples and 14 homers while driving in 48 runs for the Cardinal this season. The native of Los Angeles started 61 games, primarily playing second base, while compiling 19 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI contests. A Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention selection, Bowser launched six homers, doubled five times and drove in 22 runs while hitting .300 against conference foes.

Stanford's nine selections are the most for the Cardinal since 2019 - a year it saw nine selected in a 40-round draft. The last time Stanford had nine players drafted in the first 20 rounds of a draft was 1996 when it also had nine.
