STANFORD, Calif. – For the sixth consecutive season, five Cardinal women's rowers have been named 2023 Pocock Racing Shells All-America Athletes, the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced Wednesday.
Rowers Luise Bachmann, Lettie Cabot, Azja Czajkowski, Célia Dupré, and Rachel Miller each earned first-team All-America honors. Stanford had five awardees on the first team for just the second time in program history (most recently in 2021).
With Thursday's announcement, Czajkowski became a two-time All-America honoree, leaving the Cardinal as one of its most decorated athletes in program history. Bachmann, Cabot, Dupré, and Miller were each honored for the first time.
Highlighted by victories from its varsity eight and second varsity eight crews, Stanford captured its second NCAA team championship in school history and first since 2009 with a dominant performance at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Pennsauken, N.J.
All five All-America selections rowed as part of Stanford's national-championship-winning varsity eight throughout the season, with Dupré acting as the lone freshman representative in the boat. In May, Czajkowski became the Cardinal's first-ever two-time Pac-12 Athlete of the Year, while Dupré earned Stanford's fourth consecutive Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year honor. Cabot and Miller earned All-Pac-12 accolades for their strong performances throughout the 2023 season.
To meet the criteria for Pocock All-America selection, a student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution while having rowed in at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat. Boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2,000-meter erg scores are also considered.
