STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal improved to 2-0 through the first weekend of action after taking down No. 17 Georgetown on Sunday, 5-1. It was Stanford's second-straight win over a ranked opponent after topping No. 8 Creighton 3-1 on Thursday.

"What an emphatic performance," said The Knowles Family Director of Men's Soccer Jeremy Gunn. "Georgetown is a very impressive team, and for our players to dismantle them like they did is a top quality performance."

Despite the final scoreline, it was Georgetown who struck first in the match, finding the back of the net 10 minutes into the game to take an early 1-0 lead.

"You always want to start well, and I thought our attitude was fantastic and that we were playing well," said Gunn. "They put in a positive ball, ask a question of us, and their striker is very dangerous and gets the better of the center back. Suddenly, we're a goal down when we thought we were playing well."

But 12 minutes later, Noah Adnan evened the score with his first goal of the season, heading home a pass from Zach Bohane, the first of five straight goals for the Cardinal. Will Reilly found the back of the net next, launching a screamer of a volley into the top right corner to send Stanford into the break up 2-1.

"Goals can really change games and attitudes, and I was so impressed with how our team dusted themselves off and got straight back at them," said Gunn. "We kept playing and asking questions."

Stanford rocketed out of the break with another goal, this time coming from Zach Bohane only 35 seconds into the second half. The Cardinal wasn't finished yet, with another strike coming from Jackson Kiil in the 60th minute from Shane de Flores.

Bohane bagged his first career brace, notching a pristine free kick goal in the 89th minute to finish off the Sunday scoring display.

"Just like Thursday, there were always moments when Georgetown could get a look at us, but the defense played magnificently to keep some really good players quiet," explained Gunn. "Our passing and movement today was just too much for our opponents."

The Cardinal was dynamic offensively yet again, outshooting the visitors 12-5 and in shots on goal 6-2. Through two games, Stanford has netted eight goals while only conceding twice.

Defensively, Jack Morris earned the start in goal, playing the full 90 minutes. Multiple players made their Stanford debuts, including freshman Dylan Groeneveld and junior transfer Louis Weisdorf.

Stanford returns to action next Monday for the first road game of the season. Stanford will take on San Jose State at 7 p.m. in San Jose.
