STANFORD, Calif. – Twelve Stanford gymnasts are set to compete at this weekend's Core Hydration Classic at NOW Arena in Chicago, Illinois. The event, previously tabbed the U.S. Classic, features some of the top gymnasts in the country and serves as the final qualifier to the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, Calif. The weekend will include competition for junior and senior women and men as well as the Hopes Championships.
Cardinal gymnasts set to participate in the competition are Jeremy Bischoff, Brandon Briones, Taylor Burkhart, J.R. Chou, Ian Gunther, Asher Hong, Riley Loos, Brandon Nguyen, Curran Phillips, Blake Sun, Colt Walker and Khoi Young.
Hong, Loos, Phillips, Sun and Young are all current members of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team, while Bischoff is a member of the Senior Development Team.
Competition in Chicago will kick off Friday at 12 p.m. PT with the 2023 Hopes Championships, which will see Hopes athletes in the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups vie for national titles. They will be followed by junior women's Core Hydration Classic competition at 5 p.m. PT.
Saturday's slate is reserved for two sessions of senior women's competition, with Session 1 at 11 a.m. PT and Session 2, featuring all Team USA Olympic and World Championships medalists, at 5 p.m. PT. The final day is set for Sunday, August 6, when the spotlight will be on men's competition. Junior men and Session 1 of senior men, which includes all National Team athletes, will start at 8:45 a.m. PT, with Session 2 beginning at 2:45 p.m. PT.
