DURHAM, N.H. – Kicking off conference play on the East Coast, the Cardinal dropped a 3-1 contest against New Hampshire on Friday afternoon at Memorial Field. Following the loss, Stanford drops to 2-5 on the season (0-1 in America East play).
Anna Ghuliani was the lone goal scorer for the Cardinal, with Star Horlock picking up the assist. Kendall Dowd and Daisy Ford combined for nine saves between the posts. New Hampshire held a 14-11 advantage on shots, while penalty corners were even at four apiece.
"Really happy with how we pressed and the chances we created," head coach Roz Ellis said. "The biggest takeaways we need to take into Maine is capitalizing on our penalty corners and the counterattack."
New Hampshire kicked off the scoring in the opening period off a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead after one quarter. Stanford would answer early in the second as Ghuliani fired a shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the cage.
The Wildcats would reclaim the lead with just 19 seconds left in the first half with a shot that snuck between Dowd and the near-side post to give them a 2-1 lead at the break. New Hampshire would add another goal in the third quarter to put the game out of reach as Stanford couldn't convert on their late-game corner opportunities to narrow the deficit.
The Cardinal will close out the road trip on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT against Maine before they head back home for a date with UC-Davis on Varsity Turf on Friday, Sept. 22. Sunday's action will be streamed on ESPN+ and will be internationally available on AmericaEast.tv.
