Cardinal Represented for USA Field Hockey

STANFORD, Calif – As the USA Field Hockey prepares for upcoming international competition, Stanford field hockey will have representation on both the men's and women's national teams this fall.

Former Stanford All-American goalkeeper Kelsey Bing '20 has been named to the 16-athlete roster that will travel to Santiago, Chile next month to compete at the 2023 Pan American Games, as announced by U.S. Women's National Team head coach David Passmore on Monday morning.

It will be Bing's second straight appearance at the Pan American games, earning a bronze medal at the 2019 games, and now sits at 62 career appearances for the U.S. National Team. A decorated athlete at Stanford, Bing's tenure included three America East championships and two All-America selections, in addition to numerous academic honors.

"We closely follow the U.S. women's national team, and we continue to be proud of our alumnae Kelsey Bing," head coach Roz Ellis said. "She has continued to demonstrate her abilities between the posts since her time at Stanford, and we look forward to cheering her on and watching the team's growth towards Paris 2024."

In addition, Stanford practice player Michael Mendoza was named to the 2024 U.S. Men's National Team. Mendoza, who has played a pivotal role in the training and development of the Cardinal program, was selected for the second year in a row and has made a total of four career U.S. National Team appearances.

"Michael has had a positive impact on our team since he tried out for being our practice player," Ellis added. "He is not only positively present each day, but he has bought into culture and actively attends our meetings, scouts, community service opportunities, and team-building sessions. We are grateful for his work with our program, as there is no sponsored collegiate men's hockey, and he makes both himself and our team better."

The USMNT training schedule is still being finalized, as the senior national team is prepared for the Pan American Games in October.
