STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford football program mourns the loss of former head coach Buddy Teevens, who served as the Cardinal's Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football from 2002-04. Teevens was 66.
"I was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Buddy Teevens," said Bernard Muir, Stanford's Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics. "Coach Teevens was an innovator in the game of football and he meant so much to Stanford throughout his time here. Coach Teevens impacted countless lives and he will be missed and remembered on The Farm."
Teevens, who led the Cardinal to a 10-23 record over three seasons, completed his 22nd season at Dartmouth last fall and was the winningest coach in school history at 117-101-2 with five Ivy League titles in two stints at his alma mater.
Teevens began his coaching career at Maine in 1986, in addition to a five-year tenure at Tulane (1992-96).
Regarded as a leader in player safety initiatives, Teevens played quarterback at Dartmouth and earned Ivy League Player of the Year honors in 1978, guiding the Big Green to a conference title. Teevens also played hockey at Dartmouth.
