LOS ANGELES – Opening play at the Overnght MPSF Invitational on Friday afternoon, No. 4 Stanford (7-2) defeated No. 14 Cal Baptist (6-6) 20-10.
 
Stanford's leading scorer entering the tournament, Riley Pittman led the way with five goals on six shots while adding one assist. With the season-high in goals, Pittman has now collected multiple scores in seven of the nine games this year.
 
Jackson Painter also shined offensively, scoring four goals on just four shots while adding three assists to record his sixth multi-goal game of the season.
 
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Griffen Price totaled a career-best 13 saves in the victory while facing 34 Cal Baptist shots.
 
Freshman Alex Gheorghe scored the game's first goal and Stanford never trailed, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first. The Cardinal would outscore Cal Baptist 7-2 in the opener.
 
Painter pushed the Cardinal to the 10-goal plateau at 10-4, finding the back of the net with 4:24 remaining in the first half. The Cardinal outscored the Lancers 6-4 in the second to carry a 13-6 advantage into halftime.
 
Tanner Pulice, Painter and Daniel Mnatsakanian each scored goals in the third quarter as the two teams traded a trio of goals to send the match to the fourth with Stanford leading 16-9.
 
Pulice and Mnatsakanian each finished with two goals in the victory – the first multi-goal performance of Mnatsakanian's career.
 
The Cardinal closed the match strong, winning the final stanza 4-1 behind goals from Pittman, Christopher Arakelian, Guido Leonardi and Ethan Parrish.
 
The Cardinal scored the 20 goals on 33 shots while going 3-for-8 in powerplay opportunities.
 
Stanford will continue action at the Invitational on Saturday when it plays the first of two matches on the day at 9:30 a.m. against No. 4 Princeton. Princeton defeated Cal Baptist 16-8 earlier on Friday.
