Sunday Shutout

STANFORD, Calif. – Fifth-year player Maya Doms netted her fourth goal of the season, while freshman Maryn Wolf and sophomore Elise Evans contributed their first, as No. 3 Stanford (10-0-1, 3-0-0 Pac-12) shut out Arizona (4-4-3, 1-2-0 Pac-12) 3-0 on Sunday from Cagan Stadium.

Nya Harrison set up Doms' goal in the 15th minute, taking a thrown in and leading the Stanford midfielder through the defense where Doms dribbled toward the top of the box and laced a right-footed shot into the back of the net. For Doms, the goal was the 25th of her career.

Leading 1-0, Stanford doubled its lead headed into halftime thanks to the first career strike from Wolf in the 44th minute. Samantha Williams played a long ball down the line that was run down by Doms and ultimately crossed toward the goal. Wolf got a step on her defender before slotting a shot past the dive of Hope Hisey in goal for her first career point.

Doms finished the match with four shots, including three on goal, while contributing the goal and assist.

Perhaps saving its best goal for last, Stanford scored on a free kick in the 80th minute to make it 3-0. Katie Duong took the free kick, bending a ball toward the penalty spot where Jasmine Aikey flicked it on with a back heel and hit Evans in stride for the goal.

The goal was the fourth of Evans' career after scoring three as a freshman a year ago.

Senior Ryan Campbell earned her 13th career shutout, including her fifth of the season, finishing with four saves in goal for the Cardinal. Campbell was forced into a pair of tough saves, including turning away a 1-on-1 chance from Cameron Valladares at the 37-minute mark in the first half.
