STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford swimmers won every event on the way to a 165-88 men's victory over UC Santa Barbara at Avery Aquatic Center.
After two Cardinal posted NCAA B standard times in its opener against visiting Pittsburgh two weeks ago, eight others achieved B standards on Saturday.
Joining the club were Luke Mauer in the 200-yard freestyle (1:34.09), Aaron Sequeira in the 100 backstroke (47.01), Andres DuPont in the 100 free (42.65), Josh Zuchowski in the 200 back (1:42.67), Ethan Dang in the 200 breaststroke (1:56.32), Matt Fenlon in the 500 free (4:19.32), Ethan Hu in the 100 butterfly (46.86), and Rick Mihm in the 400 individual medley (3:49.02).
All except Maurer's and Mihm's resulted in victories, because each came against freshman Rex Maurer, who won both events in 'B' standard times. Rex Maurer went 1:33.88 in the 200 free and 3:44.70 in the 400 IM to add to his B's in the 100 back and 500 free in Stanford's opener. Jonathan Tan also achieved B's in two events against Pitt.
Overall, 10 different Cardinal have achieved 'B' standard times, though Stanford still is searching for its first 'A' standard.
Stanford welcomed the return of Andres DuPont from the Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile, where he raced in six events for Mexico from Saturday through Wednesday. Besides his 100 free victory, DuPont swam No. 3 on the winning 200 free relay that also included Rafael Gu, Tan, and Luke Maurer.
Stanford (2-0) took the lead over UCSB (1-1) from the first event – the 200 medley relay. The team of Gu, Dang, Ethan Harrington, and Tan clocked 1:26.32, and the Cardinal 'B' team was second.
This was the final home meet of the fall, though Stanford competes against Cal in Berkeley on Friday, November 3 in a low-key dual that the coaches call the "Triple Distance Meet," in which many swim off-specialty events.
