REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Cardinal competed in two regattas at home over the weekend, earning two decisive regatta victories in the Top-9 Invite and the PCCSC Fall Women's Championship. The pair of event wins marked Stanford's fifth and sixth first place finishes of the fall season in team events.
"Sailing at home last weekend was a nice change of pace after a month of commuting to the East Coast," said head sailing coach Chris Klevan. "It was fun to compete again in conference and I'm proud of our women for punctuating their historic fall season with a conference championship."
In the Top-9 Invite, Stanford topped the field with 26 points, 82 better than second-place UC Santa Barbara.
It was a dominant performance from the Cardinal across the board, as the team sailed to a first-place finish in all but one of the A division races. Reade Decker and Ellie Harned were clinical in the A boat, leading the team to only nine points.
In the B division, Stanford also finished on top with 17 points, finishing in the top-three in all but one race. Luke Woodworth and Alice Schmid led the Cardinal in all eight of the division's races.
The Cardinal also competed in the PCCSC Fall Women's Championship at home, also taking a decisive victory in the conference contest. Stanford finished with 35 points in the event, well in front of Hawaii with 70 points in second place.
Vanessa Lahrkamp and Gwendolyn Donahue took the helm of the A boat, sailing the Cardinal to an event-best 10 points. The pair took first in six of the eight races, finishing second in the other two.
In the B division, Hannah Freeman and Isabelle McNabb carried the Cardinal to the best score with 25 points. The pair of sailors finished in the top-five in all but one race.
Stanford returns to action next weekend in the ICSA Match Race National Championships in Charleston, South Carolina.
