STANFORD, Calif. – The Cardinal's deepest runs at the ITA All-American Championships ended in the main draw round of 16 in Cary, N.C.
Stanford's most stirring result came from No. 14 Angelica Blake in the main draw's opening round, when she upset North Carolina's No. 5 Reese Brantmeier 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Another Cardinal upset by ITA ranking came in the round of 32 of prequalifying doubles, when the 60th-ranked pair of Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova toppled No. 25 Eva Alvarez Sande and Elyse Tse of Washington State, 8-4.
Following an opening-round win in main draw singles over No. 72 Abigail Rencheli of North Carolina State (6-1, 6-4), No. 21 Yepifanova was ousted by Miami's No. 3 Alexa Noel, 7-6 (4), 6-2. In main draw doubles, sixth-ranked Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina beat No. 53 Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran of North Carolina, 6-4, 6-2, before a loss to Auburn's DJ Bennett and Selin Ovunc (6-4, 5-7, 10-3). Blake was bested by California's No. 47 Jessica Alsola in the round of 16, 6-2, 6-2.
