STANFORD, Calif. – Capping an undefeated opening week of the season, Stanford men's basketball rolled to a 91-73 victory over Sacramento State on Friday night at Maples Pavilion.
Brandon Angel led the way with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting while Spencer Jones added 15 and Maxime Raynaud 14. Andrej Stojakovic was in double figures for the first time in his career with 12 points, while Stanford shot 55.7 percent as a team from the floor and 42.1 percent from 3-point range.
The Cardinal (2-0) got impeccable play from its point guards, as Jared Bynum tied his career-high with 10 assists, with only one turnover, and Benny Gealer was credited a career-high six assists with no turnovers. Bynum scored six points with two steals while Gealer tallies career-bests of eight points and five rebounds.
As a team Stanford had 22 assists while turning it over only four times, setting a new single game program standard at 5.5-to-1, beating the previous mark set on Feb. 3, 2013 against Oregon State (4.75-to-1).
Stanford led from start to finish, opening up an early seven point lead, 11-4, to take control. Jones had 10 points at the half, including a pair of triples, and Stanford left for the intermission ahead by eight, 47-39.
The positive momentum carried into the second frame, with the Cardinal opening up a 16-point lead after five minutes in the period. Stojakovic drilled a triple to cap an 11-1 run that gave Stanford its biggest lead of the night at 19 points, and Stanford managed the game late to win by 18.
Stanford returns to the court at Maples Pavilion on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. The contest will air on Pac-12 Network.
