Card Relay Hits 'A' Standard

Day 1 Results Opens in a new window

AUSTIN, Texas – Seeking to ramp up its intensity after three duals to open the season, the Stanford men's swimming team earned its first NCAA 'A' standard on Wednesday at the opening of the four-day Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational.

The Cardinal 800-yard freestyle relay team of Rex Maurer, Luke Maurer, Henry McFadden, and Andres Dupont was second to Texas in 6:12.28, eclipsing the 'A' standard of 6:16.02.

There were two men's finals at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center and Stanford was runner-up to the host Longhorns in both. In the 200 medley relay, the Cardinal team of Rex Maurer, Ethan Dang, Rafael Gu, and Jonathan Tan clocked 1:24.88.

The splits for Stanford in the 800 free relay were Rex Maurer in 1:33.58 for the opening 200, followed by Luke Maurer in 1:32.87, McFadden in 1:32.69, and Dupont in 1:33.14. In a back-and-forth race, Rex Maurer put Stanford in front, Texas took the lead on the second leg, McFadden regained it on the third leg, but the Longhorns ultimately claimed the race by overtaking Stanford on the final 50.

The meet continues Thursday with action beginning at 8 a.m. PT and the finals starting at 4 p.m. There are four men's finals on Thursday.
