Live Results Opens in a new window

AUSTIN, Texas – Stanford won three men's swimming events at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday, capped off by an 'A' standard performance by the 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Following victories by Rafael Gu in the 100 butterfly and Rex Maurer in the 400 individual medley, the Cardinal pulled off a 1:16.75 in the relay to conclude the third day of the four-day meet at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

The team of Jonathan Tan, Gu, Avery Voss and Luke Maurer beat the 'A' cutoff by 0.05. The splits for each 50 were 19.35 for Tan, 19.03 for Gu, 19.11 for Voss, and 19.26 for Maurer on the anchor. Gu's leg pushed the Cardinal past Wisconsin and into a lead it would not relinquish.

It was the second 'A' standard of the meet for Stanford. On Wednesday, the Cardinal 800 free relay team of Rex Maurer, Luke Maurer, Henry McFadden, and Andres Dupont clocked 6:12.28 in a runner-up finish.

In the 100 fly, Gu bolted to a huge lead on the opening 25, clocking 9.39 to lead by 0.46 over teammate Aaron Sequeira. Gu maintained the big lead on the way to touching the wall in 45.07, a 'B' standard. Sequeira was third in 45.95 for another 'B' standard.

Maurer eclipsed his personal best by three seconds while clocking 3:41.27 in the 400 IM final. The freshman was dominant in winning by more than three seconds. Maurer is 2.37 seconds from the 'A' cutoff in that event.

The Texas Invite concludes Saturday with six more men's finals. Of the 12 finals so far, Stanford men have won five.
