Region Awards for Santos, Robinson

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford senior Ky Robinson and Cardinal men's distance coach Ricardo Santos received annual West Region honors for cross country from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Robinson earned the John Chaplin Award as the region's Men's Athlete of the Year. And Santos received the Dean Miller Award as the West Region's Men's Coach of the Year.

Robinson, from Brisbane, Australia, finished third at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. He won individual titles at both the final Pac-12 Championships and the West Region Championships, and was named the Pac-12's Cross Country Men's Athlete of the Year.

This is the 12th time Stanford has won the Men's Athlete of the Year award. Robinson is the fourth consecutive Cardinal to earn the honor following three-time winner Charles Hicks. Robinson is the 10th different Stanford runner to receive the honor since it was first presented in 1998. To read Robinson's story, click here.

Santos, in his fifth year leading the men's distance program at Stanford, led the Cardinal to an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Earlier, Stanford won the team title at the West Region Championships with 73 points and Pac-12 Conference Championships with 41 points.

Santos, the Pac-12 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, gives Stanford its 14th regional men's cross country coach award. He is the seventh different recipient from Stanford since such recognition began in 1998. This is the third time Santos has received this award while at Stanford and the sixth time he has been named regional cross country Coach of the Year overall, including three East Region awards with the Iona men's and women's programs.
