PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Competing on Thanksgiving in the second of three straight games at the Battle 4 Atlantis, Stanford men's basketball fell late to Michigan, 83-78.
Jared Bynum paced the Cardinal with a season-high 22 points, including five made threes to go with six assists, while Michael Jones added 16 points with four made threes. Maxime Raynaud and Brandon Angel were also in double figures with 14 and 11 points apiece.
Stanford shot 50 percent from the floor for the game and made 12 triples on 44.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
The Cardinal opened up the game with a flurry of scoring, taking a 23-9 lead through the first 7:20. Angel scored seven points to lead the run while Jones punctuated it with back-to-back threes less than a minute apart. The Wolverines (4-2) responded with a run of their own and led at the intermission, 45-44.
Stanford led by as many as seven points in the second half as Jones opened the period with an 8-0 run on his own. Michigan took a 13-point lead with 12:24 to play, but the Cardinal rallied to tie the game at 72-72 with 4:43 to play after a triple from Bynum. The Cardinal got good looks at the basket down the stretch, but time ran out to earn the win.
The program closes the Battle 4 Atlantis against Northern Iowa on Friday, Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. PT. The contest will air on ESPN+.
