STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's basketball started its season on a strong note, darting past CSUN, 88-79, on Monday night at Maples Pavilion. The win was the Cardinal's 13th in a row in a season opener.

Maxime Raynaud led the Cardinal with career highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds, to go with three assists, three blocks and two steals. Raynaud was the first Stanford player with at least 20 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in a game since Curtis Borchardt on Feb. 7, 2002 (vs. Oregon).

Michael Jones pitched in 20 points, with four made threes, while Brandon Angel had 18 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Making his Cardinal debut, Jared Bynum scored 13 points and dished seven assists with no turnovers. The Providence transfer also had a game-high three steals.

The Matadors (0-1) made an early run in the opening half to lead by as many as eight points, 21-13, but the Cardinal quickly responded over a three-minute stretch to level the game after baskets from Raynaud and Jones. Stanford scored 13 points over the final five minutes to take a five-point advantage into the half, 43-38.

Raynaud scored eight of Stanford's first 11 points in the second half, helping Stanford to a nine-point lead with 16:55 to play. Following a CSUN run late in the period, the Cardinal ended the game on a 13-0 run to claim a nine-point victory.

Stanford improved to 7-0 all-time against CSUN.

The four-game homestand to begin the year continues Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. against Sacramento State. The action will air on Pac-12 Networks.
