NORMAN, Okla. – Competing at McCasland Field House on Saturday night, No. 1 Stanford finished second behind No. 2 Oklahoma in a tri-meet that also featured No. 11 William & Mary.
Oklahoma, which has not lost a meet in McCasland Field House since 2007, scored a 418.900, followed by the Cardinal (413.800) and William & Mary (380.750).
Stanford competed without the services of a handful of gymnasts on Saturday night – including Riley Loos, Brody Malone, Colt Walker, Taylor Burkhart and Khoi Young who have all spent time competing with the U.S. Senior National Team.
Freshman Asher Hong won the all-around on Saturday night, posting a combined 85.600 to finish ahead of Oklahoma's Zach Nunez (83.550) for the title. The native of Tomball, Texas won the vault (15.150) and parallel bars (14.650) titles while finishing second on floor (14.700) and third on horizontal bar (13.700). Hong set new career highs on vault and floor en route to winning his first collegiate all-around crown.
Sophomore Nicolas Kuebler also won an event title on Saturday, topping all comers with a career-best 14.300 on still rings. Graduate student Ian Gunther followed in second with a 14.200.
Gunther joined Hong in the all-around, scoring 81.800 to place third overall.
Ian Lasic-Ellis was Stanford's top performer on pommel horse, posting a career-high 14.400 to finish third in the event. The sophomore also finished second behind Hong on parallel bars with career-best 14.600.
With Stanford concluding the meet on vault, senior Brandon Briones nailed down a 14.700 to finish just off his career-best of 14.800 in the event and claim third. Jeremy Bischoff did manage to meet his career high, scoring a 14.250 to lead off the Cardinal vault lineup.
Junior Brandon Nguyen narrowly missed winning the horizontal bar crown, posting a career-high 13.950 to finish second behind Oklahoma's Kelton Christiansen (14.000).
Stanford will return to The Farm next week when it hosts NorCal United on Saturday at 4 p.m.
