STANFORD, Calif. - Set to finish his undergraduate degree in a matter of weeks having recently completed his career on the Stanford men's water polo team, Larsen Weigle has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for his academic and athletic achievements.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winners receive a one-time grant of $10,000. In addition to maintaining at least a 3.2 grade-point average, they must perform with distinction in their sport and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative. Stanford's overall total of NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients is now 184.
Originally from Atherton, Calif., Weigle has competed for the Cardinal since his freshman season in 2019 and scored a total of 80 goals in his career. He was part of the 2019 NCAA championship squad and won two MPSF titles with the team, while earning second-team All-MPSF honors as a senior. In the classroom, Weigle was named the NCAA Elite 90 winner as a sophomore, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each sport's championship site. He has been a member of the Association of College Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Team each of his four years, along with earning MPSF All-Academic honors every year in which he was eligible.
Weigle is set to earn his undergraduate degree in computer science with focus in artificial intelligence. He plans to continue his studies at Stanford and pursue a master's in computer science, beginning this spring. Passionate about the intersection of machine learning and environmental conservation/climate change, he hopes to take on a teaching assistant role as a graduate student and will join the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL).
