STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford totaled 1412.00 points in the final 2022-23 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, claiming its first victory since 2019 and 26th overall in the possible 29 seasons of the award.

Stanford, which produced runner-up finishes to Texas in each of the last two seasons, reclaimed its familiar position as the most successful intercollegiate athletic department in the nation. The Cardinal had captured the Directors' Cup for 25 consecutive seasons from 1995-2019, after finishing second in 1994 to North Carolina in the award's inaugural season.

Texas was the runner-up with 1370.50 points, followed by Ohio State in third with 1170.75, Virginia in fourth with 1105.50 and Florida taking fifth with 1091.50 to round out the top-five.

The Cardinal won three NCAA titles in 2022-23, as men's gymnastics maintained its dominance with a fourth straight victory, women's water polo repeated for the first time since 2014-15 and women's rowing secured its second program crown and first in 14 years. Extending one of the most recognizable streaks in college athletics, the Cardinal has won at least one NCAA team championship in each of the last 47 seasons, dating back to the 1976-77 campaign. Stanford also secured two national titles in sailing, bringing its overall team championship total to five.

In addition to its three NCAA championships, Stanford also delivered five top-3 finishes from women's swimming and diving, women's golf, softball, women's tennis and men's outdoor track and field. The Cardinal scored in three of four countable sports, along with 15 additional total sports.

Overall, 19 sports are counted in the final DI standings, four of which must be women's volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball and baseball. The next highest (15 maximum) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.

Stanford teams have won a nation-leading 134 NCAA championships (70 men, 64 women) and 163 national championships overall (76 men, 85 women, 2 coed). The Cardinal has clinched at least three national championships in each of the last nine seasons.

Of Stanford's 134 NCAA championships, 35 have been won by fall sports, 32 by winter sports and 67 by spring sports. Since 2000, the Cardinal has captured 58 NCAA crowns.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
