Cardinal Beats Cardinals

AUSTIN, Texas – Behind Will Rottman's 22 kills, No. 8 Stanford defeated No. 14 Ball State, 25-9, 21-25, 30-28, 25-18, Saturday, at the First Point Collegiate Challenge at the Austin Convention Center.

Rottman's match-high kills came on .409 hitting. The outside hitter also registered six digs, two blocks, two assists. He had four aces in the opening set, serving 10 points in a row to give the Cardinal a sizable lead.

As a team, Stanford (6-0) hit .303 and finished with 8.0 blocks, eight aces and 39 digs. Ball State (7-4) was held to .185 hitting. The Cardinals totaled 11.0 blocks, four aces and 34 digs.
 


Austin native Nathan Lietzke dished out 39 assists and finished with a team-high 10 digs for his third double-double of the season. The setter also put down two kills and two aces.

Opposite Moses Wagner added 15 kills, eight digs and two blocks for the Cardinal, while outside hitter Alex Rottman turned in seven kills, five digs and four blocks, including two solo.
 


Middle blocker Adam Chang racked up a team-high four locks to go with four kills, while middle blocker Nathaniel Gates chipped in with four kills and a block. Libero Luke Turner had nine digs and three assists.

Outside hitters Kevin Lamp and Ryan DuRoss both came off the bench to serve in three of the four sets, each tallying an ace. Sophomore Theoren Brouillette played in all four set, notching three assists, while sophomore Theo Snoey had two kills on two swings in the first.
 


Ball State was led by outside hitter Patrick Rogers' 19 kills on .500 hitting, while libero Cameron Gray had a team-best 10 digs.

Stanford returns to The Farm to play host to No. 18 CSUN on Friday, Feb. 2 in Burnham Pavilion and Saturday, Feb. 3 in Maples Pavilion.
