ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 9 Stanford men's tennis opened ITA Kickoff Weekend in shutout fashion, defeating No. 22 Memphis on Michigan's campus, 4-0.
Stanford earned the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead after taking matches on courts one and two. Aryan Chaudhary and Harsh Hemang Parikh scored the first win, 6-3, in the second position while Nico Godsick and Samir Banerjee were close behind with a 6-3 win of their own.
The Cardinal carried the momentum into singles play with a trio of straight-set wins. Banerjee pushed the Cardinal lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win on court one, while Max Basing scored a win on court two, 6-3, 6-4, to push Stanford within a win of advancing in the tournament. Clinching his second-straight match, and the 11th of his career, Neel Rajesh posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court five to end the contest.
With the win, Stanford advances to face the host No. 14 Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. PT. The winner will advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships in New York.
