Card Outlasted at Kickoff Weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – In a match that went down to the wire, No. 9 Stanford men's tennis fell to No. 14 Michigan, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinal drops to 2-1 this season with the result.

Stanford picked up the doubles point for the third consecutive match after securing victories on courts two and three. Nishesh Basavareddy and Kyle Kang rolled to a 6-3 win in the third position, while Aryan Chaudhary and Harsh Hemang Parikh won in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2), to give the Cardinal the early edge.

The Stanford lead grew to 2-0 after a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win by Samir Banerjee in the first position, coming against the nation's ninth-ranked player. The Wolverines responded with three consecutive wins to take control, 3-2, but Hudson Rivera tied the match with a three-set win on court six, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
