Canady Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week

STANFORD, Calif. - Following a dominant weekend at the SDSU Season Kickoff, sophomore NiJaree Canady has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week. Canady leads the nation with 33 strikeouts in 16.1 innings, including 15 in her season debut against No. 24 San Diego State.

Canady's 15-strikeout performance was tied for the sixth-most in a single game in program history, and the second most in her career. Canady followed up the one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts in her second start against No. 25 Kentucky. Canady allowed just one earned run in the loss, before ending the season with her first save of the season. 

Through 16.1 innings, Canady boasts a 0.43 with a 1-1 record and one save. Her 14.1 strikeouts per seven innings lead the nation, among players with more than five innings pitched.

Last season, Canady earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors three times.

Canady and the Cardinal head to Florida this weekend, opening the Clearwater Invitational with Georgia Tech on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 a.m. PT on ESPN U.
