Stanford Stumbles Against Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford suffered its second straight defeat to a top-10 opponent on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 7 California, 155.5-144.5, in the regular season finale.

The Cardinal swept event titles on the diving boards, but eight race wins and some pivotal podium finishes in the pool helped push the Golden Bears to their first victory over Stanford since 2021.

Aurora Roghair once again proved why she is one of the nation's top freestylers as she tallied another pair of race wins on Saturday. The Iowa City, Iowa native touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a 9:29.70, followed up by a 4:38.12 swim to earn the 500 free race win.

Lucy Bell continued her climb up the Stanford Top-10 ranks in the 100 breast, clocking a flat time of 59.00 to move up to sixth all-time in that event. The junior bested her previous mark of 59.45 against Arizona earlier this season.

Lillie Nordmann had herself a solid in the day, notching a Stanford Top-10 time and a race win in back-to-back events. Nordmann posted a 1:52.41 in the 200 fly to jump to fifth in the Cardinal all-time ranks, then paced the field in the 100 free with a 47.94.

Caroline Bricker rounded out the individual event winners for Stanford in exciting fashion, earning a comeback victory in the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.15.

Lauren Burch tallied the 1-meter dive win with a score of 265.73 and Emilie Moore notched the 3-meter crown with a 325.73, while Stanford closed out the afternoon with a 400 Free relay win from the "A" group of Anna Shaw, Kayla Wilson, Lillie Nordmann, and Amy Tang.

Stanford now shifts its focus to the postseason, as the Cardinal will return to action on Feb. 28-March 2 for the final edition of the Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Washington.
