PULLMAN, Wash. – Stanford men's basketball was outlasted on the road by Washington State, 72-59, on Saturday afternoon at Beasley Coliseum.
Brandon Angel paced the Cardinal with 15 points, going 6-for-9 from the floor, while Kanaan Carlyle and Michael Jones finished with 12 points apiece. Carlyle dished a team-leading five assists, while Jones led the team with two makes from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Cardinal trailed by 10 in the first half, 21-11 with 9:56 to go in the period, but rallied to take the lead with a 23-12 spurt over the subsequent eight minutes, 34-33. Benny Gealer scored in the closing seconds of the half, with Stanford ahead at the break by one, 36-35.
Stanford's largest lead of the game came with 15:32 left in the second half, 47-42, with Angel and Carlyle making back-to-back baskets while being fouled. The Cougars responded with a 21-6 run to take control, and secure the result.
The Cardinal returns home to face Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. The contest will air on ESPN2.
