2024 Season Kicks Off in Hawaii

Notables

  • For the third consecutive season, No. 7 Stanford kicks off its 2024 season in Hawaii, competing at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic at Queen's Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii Feb. 22-24. The Cardinal will meet conference foes No. 2 UCLA and No. 1 USC, No. 9 Hawai'i and No. 7 Loyola Marymount in the three-day season-opening tournament. All programs the Cardinal will meet in the Aloha State finished the 2023 season in the top 10 of the AVCA rankings and have earned top-10 preseason rankings.
  • 2023 was the year the Cardinal beach volleyball team continued to rewrite its history books. With the program's first-ever win over UCLA at the 2023 Pac-12 Championship and its first win at the 2023 NCAA Championship, Stanford carried on its longtime legacy of excellence.
  • Last season, the Cardinal continued its reign as one of the nation's top programs, shattering its previous records along the way:
    • Ashley Vincent topped sophomore Kate Reilly's record set in 2022 (April 24, 2022) for individual wins in a season, topping North Florida for her 25th individual victory and LSU for her 26th. She finished the season with 32 wins. Partner Kelly Belardi earned 28 wins and Reilly bested her previous record with 25 wins in 2023.
    • Then-freshman pair Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent broke the program record for wins as a pair in a single season Saturday, April 8 with their come-from-behind victory over No. 9 California on court four. The freshman duo now owns 28 victories. As a duo, they sit tied-for-second on the career wins as a pair list (three away from the top of the list).
    • The Cardinal set a new record for program wins in a season in its final action of the 2023 regular season and now sits at 29 victories (the previous record was 24, set in 2022).
  • When looking at Stanford's Career Wins (individual) records, four current Stanford seniors sit in the top 10-- Kate Reilly 3rd, 68 wins), Emmy Sharp (fifth, 65 wins), and Maya Harvey and Xolani Hodel (tied for sixth, 64 wins). All four are members of the 2019-20 signing class (first played during the 2021 season), largely regarded then as the most decorated incoming freshman class to come to The Farm since the inception of the program. Since 2021, the Cardinal has recorded three back-to-back-to-back 20+ win seasons (each growing the program's record win total for a single season) and three consecutive appearances to the NCAA Championships.
  • Next up, the Cardinal travels back to California to welcome San José State, Saint Mary's, UC Davis, TCU, and Oregon to The Farm for the Battle of The Bay at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. Stanford takes on the Horned Frogs and Ducks on Friday, March 1, and battles with the Spartans and Aggies on March 2.
