Friday Night Pac-12 Matchup in Salt Lake City

  • Stanford women's gymnastics finishes its two-meet road swing Friday, making its first of three trips to Utah this season for a Pac-12 dual meet with No. 4 Utah inside Huntsman Center Feb 23.
  • The meeting between the Cardinal and the Utes is set for an 5 p.m. PT start and will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks with Jim Watson and JaNay Honest on the call.
  • Stanford earned its season-best road score in Corvallis Feb. 17, falling 197.100-196.600 to No. 19 Oregon State inside Gill Coliseum. The Cardinal's performance was highlighted by junior Anapaula Gutierrez's career-best 9.950 vault score, earning the event title for the Highlands Ranch, Colo. native. With its efforts Saturday, Stanford recorded its second consecutive meet with all four event team scores above the 49.000-point threshold, including tying the season's second-best floor rotation.
  • For her efforts Saturday, Gutierrez was named Pac-12 Specialist of the Week. The junior is the first Cardinal to win the Specialist of the Week honor since Elizabeth Price on Feb. 7, 2017.
  • Sophomore Taralyn Nguyen was also honored by the conference as the Pac-12 Coaches' Choice. She competed in three events at Stanford's Pac-12 dual meet at No. 19 Oregon State, finishing the day with three top-six finishes as she tied for third on vault (9.850), tied for second on floor (9.900) and took sixth on beam (9.825). The floor score matched a career-best while her beam effort matched her season-best score.
  • Stanford's underclassmen have stepped up in the 2024 season, with gymnasts in their first or second year currently contributing 14 of the Cardinal's 24 competition routines (vs. Oregon State)-- the most total routines competed by the Cardinal's freshmen or sophomores this season. In fact, in each meet this season, Stanford has seen an increase in contributions from its underclassmen in its competition routines, from nine at Michigan (Jan. 12) to 14 at Oregon State (Feb. 17).  Looking at all other Pac-12 program's most recent competition lineups, the Cardinal put up at least three more underclassmen routines than any of its conference foes:
    • Stanford- 14 (Feb. 17 at Oregon State)
    • Washington- 11 (Feb. 17 at Metroplex)
    • UCLA- 11 (Feb. 19 vs. Utah)
    • Oregon State- 10 (Feb. 17 vs. Stanford)
    • Utah- 10 (Feb. 19 at UCLA)
    • Arizona- 8 (Feb. 19 at Texas Woman's Quad)
    • California- 7 (Feb. 17 at Metroplex)
    • Arizona State- 5 (Feb. 15 vs. Arizona)
  • With the Cardinal's score of 196.600 in Corvallis, Stanford now has its first calculable NQS of the 2024 season-- 195.840. NQS is calculated by averaging six of the team's meets, dropping the highest score. Three of the scores within the average must be from road meets. Any score above 193.625 at Utah this weekend will increase its NQS before the first week of rankings based on NQS (Week 8).
  • Sophomore Claire Dean has led off on every event in each meet this season, a role the Piedmont, Calif. excels at. In every meet donning the Cardinal leo (19 total meets), Dean has led off the Cardinal's lineups on at least three events (and has led off on all four events for the last nine meets).
