STANFORD, Calif. – Returning home to Maples Pavilion with just five games left in the Pac-12 slate, Stanford men's basketball came up short against Oregon, 78-65.
Brandon Angel led the offense with 21 points, making eight of his 14 field goal attempts with two 3-pointers. Spencer Jones had 14 points with four triples, and he moved within two made 3-pointers of the all-time Stanford record, currently held by Chasson Randle.
Stanford fell to Oregon for just the second time in the last six meetings at Maples Pavilion, and the sixth time in the last 36 matchups.
The Cardinal held an early five-point edge, 12-7, led by seven early points from Angel and five from Michael Jones, who finished the evening with seven points and two steals. Oregon responded to take the lead with a 12-3 run, and the majority of the first half was played between two possessions. Oregon ended the period on an 8-2 run, leading at the half 40-32.
Andrej Stojakovic scored all nine of his points in the second half, but the Cardinal could not put together a run to even the score. Spencer Jones had eight second half points, including Stanford's first two baskets of the period, while the Cardinal put together a 10-2 run midway through the frame to threaten to take control. Oregon responded with three consecutive field goals and cemented the result.
Stanford returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 against Oregon State. The 2 p.m. tip-off will air on Pac-12 Networks.
