Another Top-5 Win

HONOLULU – No. 7 Stanford beach volleyball conquered two more top-10 opponents Friday, besting No. 2 UCLA 3-2 for just the second time in program history and beating host No. 9 Hawai'i 4-1 in the second day of round-robin play at the 2024 Outrigger Duke Kanahamoku Beach Classic in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

For the second consecutive day, sophomore pair Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent captured the winning point over No. 2 UCLA in a third-match showdown on court four. With the victory, the pair sits with 32 wins when playing together, the most by a pair in Stanford history.

The Cardinal now own a 4-0 record, its best ledger through four matches since the 2017 season.  Stanford's win over UCLA ups their record to 2-20 against the Bruins all-time with both wins coming in the program's most recent meetings, while the Cardinal now have a 5-10 all-time record against the Rainbow Wahine.

Stanford opened its day with a 4-1 defeat of No. 9 Hawai'i with wins on courts two through five. Senior Maya Harvey and freshman Clara Stowell kicked off the Cardinal's winning ways with a 21-17, 21-19 win on court five over Hawai'i's Amirah Ali and Pani Napoleon, and was followed by junior Taylor Wilson and Ruby Sorra's victory on court two in three sets over Kaylee Glagau and Julia Thelle by a score of 18-21, 21-0, 15-6. Freshman Chloe Hoffman and senior Kate Reilly clinched the victory with a 21-19, 21-18 decision on court three over Julia Lawrenz and Anna Maidment.

The Cardinal continued its success in Hawai'i with its down-to-the-wire victory over the Bruins, captured by Belardi and Vincent's program-record-setting victory on court four. UCLA took an early 1-0 lead with a 22-20, 21-13 win on court one, but the Cardinal came fighting back with two-set victories on courts two and three by Harvey and Stowell and Hoffman and Reilly. The Bruins tied up the match with an extra-points victory in set three on court two, but the Cardinal fought back from an early third-set deficit to take home the final point over its Pac-12 foe on court four.

Scheduling for championship bracket play will be released at a later time and can be found on the program's X page
