Cardinal Walks Off Against Colorado State in Nine Innings

AUSTIN, Texas – The Cardinal won a fifth-straight game today in walkoff fashion, with freshman Jade Berry hitting the decisive home run in the bottom of the ninth. The extra-inning win moved the Cardinal to 10-4 on the season and caps a perfect 5-0 weekend at the Lone Star State Invitational.
 
Stanford jumped out to another early lead, with freshman Jade Berry driving in senior Ellee Eck in the second inning to go up 1-0.
 
Freshman Alyssa Houston started in the circle for the Card, throwing 4.2 shutout innings with four hits and three punchouts.
 
Colorado State added a run in the fifth inning to level the scoring at 1-1.
 
Sophomore NiJaree Canady entered in the sixth inning, throwing 2.1 hitless innings while striking out three.
 
Junior Kylie Chung earned the win, pitching a perfect ninth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Berry stepped into the box with senior Aly Kaneshiro on third. The freshman crushed her second homer of the season to right field, giving the Card a 3-0 win.
 
Sophomore Taryn Kern extended her streak of reaching base safely in all 14 games to start the season, hitting and drawing a walk in the win. The San Jose native has now drawn a walk in 10-straight games, totaling 14 free passes in the span.
 
The Card heads home next week, with the team's home opener coming on Thursday against Boise State. First pitch at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium is set for 5:30 p.m. PT, with the game broadcast via Stanford Live Stream. Tickets are still available at tickets.gostanford.com.
