STANFORD, Calif. – Spencer Jones broke the Stanford career 3-point record but the Cardinal men's basketball team fell to Oregon State, 85-73, at Maples Pavilion.
Jones finished with 13 points and three 3-pointers, passing Chasson Randle '15 for the school record with 306 career 3-pointers. Jones also passed Randle for seventh place on the Pac-12's all-time 3-point list and moved within eight points of entering the top-10 in scoring in program history. The swingman also tied his career-high with four steals, passing Adam Keefe '92 for sixth in program history (143).
Maxime Raynaud tied his career high with 29 points, making 10 of his 16 attempts from the floor with eight free throws, to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Brandon Angel added 15 points and six rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting, while Benny Gealer scored seven points off the Cardinal bench.
Jones connected on his first two 3-point attempts of the game in the first 2:51 to break the record, helping Stanford to a 9-3 lead at the first timeout. Oregon State responded with a 15-2 run to take a seven-point advantage, 18-11, with 7:54 to go, and Stanford twice pulled within one possession at 25-23 and 31-30 in the closing minutes of the period. Oregon State led at the half, 38-32.
Oregon State held an 11-point lead, 47-36, with 17:26 to play, but Stanford followed with a 14-0 run over a five-minute stretch to re-gain the lead, 50-47. Angel scored five points in the stretch, capping the run with a 3-pointer from the wing. The Beavers responded to re-take control, posting a 24-10 run, and held on for the win.
