STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford men's swimming and diving team swept Pac-12 weekly honors after Saturday's victory over rival Cal.
Andrei Minakov was named Swimmer of the Week and Jack Ryan was named Diver of the Week. They combined for four individual victories and 36 points in those events. In addition, Minakov was first and second on relays, contributing to 15 more points.
No. 6 Stanford beat No. 2 Cal, 170-130, to close the regular season with a 6-1 dual record and a 5-1 record at home.
The first event was key. Minakov, on butterfly, swam the third leg in the 200-yard medley relay. Though Cal entered with the No. 2 time in the nation compared to Stanford's No. 16, the Cardinal won in a season-best 1:23.35. Stanford took the lead and never trailed.
Minakov broke his own Stanford record in the 200 fly, winning in 1:38.61. He followed by winning the 100 fly in 44.60, giving him three victories. He also anchored Stanford's 400 freestyle relay team that finished second in 2:48.55.
Ryan swept both diving events against Cal. Ryan won the 1-meter at 355.35 points and followed in the 3-meter with a score of 396.68, which gave Stanford its biggest lead, at 156-108, with two events left.
This is Ryan's fifth career weekly or monthly honor from the Pac-12 and the second for Minakov.
