STANFORD, Calif. – Led by falls from Jason Miranda and Nick Stemmet, No. 16 Stanford dominated Cal State Bakersfield, 38-9, Sunday at Burnham Pavilion.
Stanford won eight of 10 bouts, including six by bonus points, to improve to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Pac-12. Cal State Bakersfield drops to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Ranked No. 18 at 197 pounds, Stemmet pinned Khristian Dove in just 49 seconds for the fastest fall of his career. He moves to 25-6 overall and 8-3 in duals this season.
Miranda's fall didn't take much longer as the senior pinned Luis Ramos in 1:09. It was the third fall of the season for Miranda, who is ranked No. 31 at 141 pounds.
Four Cardinal registered technical falls against the Roadrunners. First up was No. 11 Daniel Cardenas at 157 pounds. The sophomore scored early and often, defeating Devyn Flores-Che, 19-4, in 1:36. It was the 10th technical fall of the season for Cardenas, who ranks in the top 10 nationally.
Redshirt freshman Hunter Garvin notched a 20-4 technical fall in 5:29 over Guillermo Escobedo at 165 pounds. It was the first tech. fall of the season for Garvin, who improves to 16-8 overall and 6-3 in duals.
True freshman Zach Hanson, who has already wrestled at 157 and 165 pounds this season, bumped up to 174 pounds against the Roadrunners. Hanson recorded a first-period technical fall, topping Ryder Dearborn, 19-4, in 2:44. He is now 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in duals.
Redshirt freshman Jack Darrah was the fourth consecutive Cardinal to turn in a technical fall, shutting out Braden Smelser, 15-0, in 5:37. He improves to 11-5 on the season and 7-2 in duals.
Graduate Dom LaJoie and redshirt senior Jaden Abas each tallied wins by decision to cap the Cardinal scoring. Abas moves to 12-6 on the season at 149 pounds, while LaJoie is now 9-7 at 133 pounds.
