SAN DIEGO - For the third-straight season, the Cardinal fencing team took home the MPSF championship. Freshmen Arianna Cao and Jared Hammerstrom led the way for the Card, with Cao taking the women's foil crown and Hammerstrom winning the men's saber.
Cao and sophomore Crystal Qian finished first and second, respectively, in the women's foil to lead the way. Senior Joy Yun took second in the women's saber, with grad student Casey Chan and sophomore sophomore Erika Yong tying for third. Senior Irene Yeu finished tied for third in the women's epee.
Hammerstrom took the men's saber crown, capping a strong first season on The Farm. Sophomore Sanjay Kasi finished tied for third in the men's foil to round out the results.
On Saturday at the NCAA West Regionals, the Card enjoyed similar successes.
The Card swept the top three spots in women's saber, with Chan finishing first, followed by Yun and Yong.
Qian and Cao topped the regional women's foil competition, this time with Qian taking first and Cao second. Yue finished second in the women's epee.
NCAA Championship selections will be unveiled this Tuesday, with the competition to run from March 21-24 at French Field House in Columbus, Ohio.
