No. 3 Stanford Hosts Ospreys and Islanders for Friday Midday Matches

Notables

  • No. 3 Stanford finishes the winter quarter with two midday matches at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Cardinal welcomes North Florida and Texas A&M Corpus Christi to The Farm for matches at 12 and 2 p.m., respectively.
  • Both matches will be streamed on Stanford Live Stream. Live stats are available for both matches and are linked below.
  • No. 3 Stanford comes off a successful trip to Tempe last weekend, besting then No. 1 UCLA for the second time this season while also sweeping No. 7 California and Oregon. The Cardinal fell to host No. 10 Arizona State in a tightly contested 3-2 battle Friday evening.
  • With the loss to No. 10 Arizona State, the Cardinal dropped in the AVCA Coaches Poll to No. 3, but the Cardinal still sit at one of its highest rankings in program history. This is largely in part to its leadership by three of the winningest players in program history— Kate Reilly (second, 77 wins), Maya Harvey (tied-for-third, 72 wins), and Xolani Hodel (fourth, 70 wins). All three are members of the 2019-20 signing class (first played during the 2021 season), largely regarded then as the most decorated incoming freshman class to come to The Farm since the inception of the program. Since 2021, the Cardinal has recorded three back-to-back-to-back 20+ win seasons (each growing the program's record win total for a single season) and three consecutive appearances to the NCAA Championships.
  • The Cardinal’s lineup also boasts four powerhouse first-year players— Ruby Sorra, Clara Stowell, Brooke Rockwell, and Chloe Hoffman— three of whom (Sorra, Rockwell, Hoffman) have seen playing time in every single match this season.
  • More than half of Stanford’s pairs in all matches this season have come from players in their first or second years playing collegiate beach volleyball. In fact, there is not a single pair that has played this season for the Cardinal that has not featured an underclassman as one of its two members.
  • Stanford has not lost a single match on court four this season (12-0), due largely in part to seven consecutive wins from senior Kate Reilly and freshman Chloe Hoffman on the court. Sophomore duo Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent hold the other five wins seen on the court this season.
  • The Cardinal takes 10 days off to focus on final exams before next taking the courts. Stanford welcomes Saint Mary's and San Francisco to The Farm Monday, March 25 for two matchups at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, both slated to be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
