STANFORD, Calif. -- Twelve Stanford swimmers and two divers, representing 26 individual entries, have been invited to the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. In addition, Stanford is eligible to compete in five relays.
Rex Maurer, Ron Polonsky, and Aaron Sequeira are eligible for three individual events each – the most of the team. Rafael Gu, Luke Maurer, Richard Mihm, and Andrei Minakov are in two each. Liam Custer, Andres Dupont Cabrera, Henry McFadden, and Josh Zuchowski also have qualified.
Cardinal relays are the 200-yard medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, and 400 free relay. Divers Jack Ryan and Hunter Hollenbeck have advanced too.
The meet is March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Rex Maurer and McFadden hold the distinction of advancing to the NCAA's as true freshmen. Maurer swims in the 200 backstroke, 400 individual medley, and 500 free. McFadden will race in the 200 free. Maurer is No. 2 in Stanford history in the 400 IM, No. 3 in the 500 free, and No. 6 in the 200 back. McFadden is No. 2 in the 200 free.
Stanford has won eight national championships and 148 NCAA individual or relay titles. The Cardinal was eighth last year and 11 different individuals earned All-America honors, with six earning first-team honors.
Minakov was the 2022 NCAA champion in the 100 butterfly and competes again in that event, plus the 200 fly. Ryan was third in the 1-meter springboard diving in 2023 and dives in both springboard events – the 1-meter and 3-meter.
