ATHENS, Ga. - Stanford collected a pair of relay podium finishes on opening night of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, as the Cardinal finishes fourth place in the team standings after day one. Stanford collected 54 points after two races, sitting behind Florida, Virginia, and Tennessee.
The opening session kicked off with the 200 medley relay as the Cardinal quartet of Natalie Mannion, Lucy Thomas, Gigi Johnson and Amy Tang clocked a 1:35.10 to win heat two in comeback fashion and place eighth overall in the event. The time was a program season-best in the event, beating the previous best mark of 1:35.58 posted by Mannion, Thomas, Tang, and Lucy Bell against California in February.
The second and final event of the evening was the 800 freestyle relay as the group of Aurora Roghair, Lillie Nordmann, Natalie Mannion, and Kayla Wilson claimed the bronze after besting their previous best time set at the Pac-12 championships by over two seconds, touching the wall with a time of 6:51.17 in the feature heat.
Action continues tomorrow morning in Gabrielsen Nataorium with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 200 free relay and 1-meter dive, with prelims beginning at 7 a.m. PT and finals at 3 p.m. PT. All competition will be streamed live on ESPN+.
