Cardenas Fourth, Garvin Sixth in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Daniel Cardenas placed fourth and Hunter Garvin took sixth on the final day of the NCAA Championships at T-Mobile Center.

As a team, Stanford finished 16th with 34.0 points. It is tied for the third-highest finish at the national tournament in school history and marks the ninth time the Cardinal finished inside the top 20.

Cardenas, the No. 6 seed at 1557 pounds, opened the day with a fall in 1:20 over No. 7 seed Peyten Kellar of Ohio in the consolation semifinals. It was the fastest fall of the season for the sophomore.

Cardenas dropped a 10-4 decision to No. 3 seed Meyer Shapiro of Cornell in the third-place bout. The Arvada, Colorado native ends the season with a 28-8 overall record and is now 52-11 in his Cardinal career.

Garvin fell in both of his matches on Saturday, ending his tournament with a 5-3 record. Just the third freshman NCAA All-American in program history, he ends the season 25-12 overall.
