Card Sweeps Utah

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 9 Cardinal topped Utah today 5-3, sweeping a second-consecutive Pac-12 series to move to 25-5 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. The streak is the first time Stanford has swept consecutive Pac-12 series since 2013.

Utah scored in the first inning for the third-straight game, putting up two runs.

Stanford answered right back, with sophomore Taryn Kern homering to lead of the game. Kern ended yesterday's game with a walk off homer, and now sits second on the team with four long balls. The homer was her third in the last four games.

The Card took the lead before the end of the first inning, thanks to sophomore Emily Jones' two-run single with two outs.

The hits kept coming, as Stanford added another run in the second from sophomore Kyra Chan. Pinch hitting with sophomore River Mahler on third, Chan singled to the right side to make it 4-2 Cardinal. Mahler had reached on a triple to extend her hitting streak to four games, with six hits and six RBI in the stretch.

Stanford added another run in the bottom of the fourth, with Chan scoring on a sac fly from freshman Ava Gall and making it 5-3. Chan finished the day 3-for-3.

The Card is on the road next weekend, taking on No. 21 Arizona starting on Thursday.
