BATON ROUGE, La. – No. 3 Stanford kicked off its time at the Death Volley Invitational with two top-20 wins, sweeping No. 17 Florida Atlantic and No. 10 LSU Friday afternoon.
With the two wins at LSU Friday, senior Kate Reilly captured her 82nd and 83rd career wins and is now the career individual wins leader on The Farm, passing Charlie Ekstrom who finished her career in 2023 with 82 wins.
The Cardinal moves to 16-2 on the season and has won its last eight matches, all but one by a score of 5-0.
Stanford started the day with its matchup against FAU, besting the Owls on all courts in straight sets. The win changed the narrative from the Cardinal's last meeting with FAU, as the two programs last met in 2023 at the Battle for Los Angeles where Stanford earned a third-set victory on court five to top the Owls 3-2.
The Cardinal's second win of the day over LSU was its second straight over the Tigers. Last season, then No. 10 Stanford topped No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge in an upset victory, 3-2, with four of five courts going to three sets. This season, the Cardinal returned to LSU's home courts ranked No. 3 in the nation and bested the Tigers on all five courts, earning three of its five points in straight sets.
Stanford continues play at the Death Volley Invitational tomorrow, taking on No. 4 TCU and No. 5 Florida State at 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively. Both matches will be streamed for free on VBTV.
