STANFORD, Calif. – Faced with another rainy day at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium, No. 2 Stanford embraced the elements and captured two sweep wins over Northern California foes UC Davis and San Jose State Saturday evening.
The Cardinal went unblemished in its second weekend of action, as Stanford currently sits 7-1 after eight matches played.
Stanford opened its day with its 5-0 victory over the Aggies. All wins came in two sets except on court two, where junior Taylor Wilson and freshman Ruby Sorra fought back from a first-set defeat to top UC Davis' Morgan Coolbaugh and Kimi Waller in set two 21-15 and set three 15-8. Freshman Chloe Hoffman and Kate Reilly earned the Cardinal's first point of the day with a 21-18, 21-14 victory on court four, while sophomore star duo Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent clinched the match with a 21-11, 21-14 decision on court three.
The Cardinal closed its weekend with a 5-0 win over the Spartans. Courts two and four took care of business with two-set victories, and senior Xolani Hodel and freshman Brooke Rockwell clinched the victory with a 21-16, 21-15 win on court one.
Stanford next takes the road and visits the site of the 2024 Pac-12 Championship for the Pac-12 South Beach Invitational March 8-9 in Tempe, Ariz. Stanford faces a rematch with now No. 1 UCLA and a matchup with host No. 11 Arizona State on March 8 while matches with the Golden Bears and Ducks are set for March 9. All four matches will be televised on Pac-12 Washington.
