TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 7 Cardinal fell at No. 21 Arizona tonight, 11-3 in five innings. The loss moves the Card to 26-6 on the season, and 7-1 in Pac-12 play.
Arizona struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the first and adding on six more in the second to take an 8-0 lead heading into the third.
The Card answered in the top of the third, with freshman Ava Gall crushing a homer to right field to score sophomore Taryn Kern and cut the deficit to 8-2. Kern had reached base on a double, her fourth-straight game with an extra-base hit.
The homer was the Card's 26th of the season, matching the team's total from all of last season in just 32 games.
Arizona added two more in the fourth to stretch the lead to 10-2. Stanford answered in the fifth, with sophomore Kyra Chan driving in a run for the third-straight game. The run made it a 10-3 game heading into the bottom of the fifth,
A walkoff homer from the Wildcats ended the game, with a final score of 11-3.
