STANFORD, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford women's tennis continued its strong season, downing No. 9 USC at Taube Family Tennis Center, 4-1. The Cardinal improves to 14-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Pac-12.
The Cardinal opened with a pair of doubles wins to claim an early advantage in the match. Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova scored a top-15 win on court one, winning 6-2, while Katherine Hui and Valencia Xu clinched the point on court three, 6-4.
Stanford won five of six first sets and finished the match in straight sets with wins on courts two, five and three. Ma defeated the nation's No. 28 player on court two in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-1, while Hui clinched her match seconds later on court five, 6-2, 6-1. The Trojans pulled back a point on court four, 3-1, before Yepifanova added the clinching point on court three with a 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Continuing Pac-12 action at home, No. 5 Stanford welcomes No. 17 UCLA to Taube on Sunday, March 31 at noon. The match was originally scheduled for Friday, March 29 before rain postponed the contest to Sunday.
