Third Place at The Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO – The best weather of the weekend resulted in an exciting finish at The Goodwin on Saturday afternoon, as Stanford shot a tournament-best 2-under 278 in the third and final round to finish in third place as a team.

Stanford's consistency on par-3s was a difference maker throughout the weekend, posting a field-best 3.02 scoring average on the tournament. The Cardinal also finished third in total birdies with 43, behind only Utah and Tennessee.

Michael Thorbjornsen put himself in contention for the individual crown with a bogey-free 67 in Saturday's final round, shooting birdie on holes 6, 7, and 12 in his best round of the weekend. Coming down the stretch, there was a four-way tie for the lead as the senior awaited the final group in the clubhouse, but a birdie on the par-3 17th from Utah's Braxton Watts gave Thorbjorsen a second-place finish.

Karl Vilips capped off his weekend with an even-par 70 to finish tied for 20th place. The senior scored three birdies, a bogey, and a double-bogey in the round, enough to secure a team-leading sixth top-20 finish of the season.

Barclay Brown knocked down three birdies in the front nine to climb as high as the top-15 early in the round, but a double-bogey on 18 dropped him down to even-par for the round as the senior finished tied for 24th.

Jake Beber-Frankel turned in his best performance of the weekend on Saturday with a 1-over round to finish the tournament tied for 68th. Sean-Karl Dobson was the team's non-scorer on Saturday with a 5-over 75.

Kush Arora was the best individual competitor for Stanford this weekend, shooting a 13-over 223 on the weekend. Both Anton Ouyang and Ethan Gao finished 20-over par through three rounds this weekend.

Stanford stays in-state for their next tournament action, competing in the Western Intercollegiate on April 15-17 in Santa Cruz, California.
