BOULDER, Colo. – Playing a true road game for the final time in the Pac-12 season, Stanford men's basketball had its rally cut short by Colorado, falling 81-71 on Sunday at the CU Events Center.
Maxime Raynaud scored 26 points to lead the offense, making 10 of his 13 field goal attempts and both of his 3-pointers. The Paris native tallied his 11th double-double of the campaign with 12 rebounds and matched a career-best with three blocks. Michael Jones scored 13 points while Kanaan Carlyle had 12 and Brandon Angel poured in 10. All eight players who saw game action made at least one field goal.
The first half saw seven lead changes, with the Cardinal leading by as many as five points. After a back-and-forth start, Raynaud, Angel and Jones led a 12-3 run to give Stanford a 24-19 advantage, but the Buffaloes responded with a 17-3 run of their own. The Cardinal scored seven of the final nine points in the period and trailed at the break, 44-37.
Raynaud scored 13 points in the second half, including back-to-back field goals to open the period and cut the deficit to one possession. The Cardinal closed the game on a 13-3 run, but Colorado held on to secure the win.
Stanford returns home for its final regular season contest on Thursday, March 7 against California. The program will honor its senior class before the game, which will tip off at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
